Mass. organic farmers seeks candidates views
Por
Associated Press.
BARRE, Mass. (AP) - Candidates for political office are commonly asked questions about their views on taxes, law enforcement and abortion.
One Massachusetts organization is asking candidates about farming.
The state chapter of the Northeast Organic Farming Association has asked more than 385 candidates for their views on raw milk regulations, labels for genetically modified organisms in food crops and state-inspected poultry slaughterhouses.
The association’s policy director, Jack Kittredge, tells The Telegram & Gazette of Worcester that he’s pleasantly surprised with the response. He says of the 79 replies so far, about 80 percent have been positive, while 15 percent have included requests to be educated on the issues.
Kittredge says it’s important for voters to know about the candidates’ positions on issues related to the food supply.
